Title: Only you (bad boy remix)
Musician(s): 112 ft. Notorious B.I.G. & Mase
Genre:R & B
Date Released: July 27th, 1996
Relevance: This song "Only you(bad boy remix)" is my favorite song from the year I was born, which is 1996. Also, this song was by African Americans, which shows that at that time African American men were famous and how there were already a lot of African Americans whose career was a musician.
The reason that this song appealed to me was because while being raised my dad did, and still plays music from the year I was born.Knowing the music from when I was born helps me compare and find the differences in the music from today to the music from the year 1996 and how it changed over time.

Title: Black Ministers Ask For Arson Inquiry
Published: April 23,1996
(This article is from the New York Times)
Relevance: The purpose of publishing this is so that not only myself, but others will be informed of what happened on the day I was born and around the time I was also born. Being that my birthday is April 23, 1996, researching articles about African American History helps me know the history of the year 1996 and the place in society where African Americans stood.
This articles talks about a group of African American men who were ministers and how they wanted for there to be a federal investigations as to why their churches were burned down. The ministers thought that the fires seemed very similar to the anti-civil right attacks, which occurred in the the 1950 & 60's. Ralph Reed; a executive director from the Christian Coalitions, offered a $25,000 reward to anyone who could give information as to the fires. He also stated " In the violence against black churches during the civil rights movement, white evangelics were too likely to "look the other way."" In this article it says that living Christians should show unity and cross the racial barriers.
My response to this article was that the African American people where still being discriminated against during this time period because of the fact that churches were being burned down the same way that they were being burned down against civil rights. Also, I feel knowledgable to now know that people where still trying to overcome these racial barriers only fourteen years ago in a manner that is more extreme compared to now. Although, I wonder if the ministers were informed as to who attacked the churches and if any of these similar attacks have been repeated in history recently.
